Depart from Cardiff

Our private tours leave either from our standard departure point at St Andrew’s Crescent in central Cardiff, or from your hotel in Cardiff and the surrounding areas. Alternative departure points may be available – please enquire for details.

2

Cardiff Bay - Dame Shirley Bassey

Shirley Bassey grew up in an area now known as Cardiff Bay but recognised in her childhood days as Tiger Bay. Born in 1937, Dame Shirley Bassey was the youngest of seven children. During the day, she worked at a local factory but earned extra money signing in local working men’s clubs in the evenings. Famed for her powerful voice and glamorous reputation, Shirley Bassey was made a Dame in 2000 and now lives in London and Monaco.

3

Pontypridd - Sir Tom Jones

The town of Pontypridd is a famous mining town, as well as being known as the birthplace of singing superstar Tom Jones, who has collaborated with the likes of Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin. We visit the house where Sir Tom was born and where he grew up, as well as where he made his first public appearance.

4

Pontrhydyfen - Richard Burton

The mining town of Pontrhdyfen, birthplace of Richard Burton, is set high in the valley of the River Afan. We explore the small village where this highly regarded actor of stage and screen was born and raised. Burton, who was famously twice married to Elizabeth Taylor, died suddenly from a cerebral haemorrhage at his home in Switzerland in 1984.

5

Port Talbot - Sir Anthony Hopkins

Port Talbot is the birthplace of the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins, considered to be one of film’s greatest living actors. Famous for his portrayal of Hannibal Lector in The Silence of the Lambs, he was knighted in 1993, became an American citizen in April 2000 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003.

6

Swansea - Dylan Thomas

Our final stop is Swansea, birthplace of Wales’ greatest poet, Dylan Thomas. We visit the centre dedicated to him and the house he was born in, discovering the surroundings that inspired him. Thomas, whose most acclaimed work was Under Milk Wood, died in New York in 1953, aged just 39, with his poetry making him famous around the world.
